    一天黄昏，一个骑马赶往海边的男子，途经一家路边的酒馆。他同其他赶往海边的人一样，相信夜间人们的行为。下马后，他把马拴在酒馆门前的一棵树上，便走了进去。

    半夜，趁人们熟睡之际，一个盗贼把马偷走了。

    第二天清晨，男子醒来，发现自己的马被偷走了。他为失马，也为竟有人心怀偷窃的念头而心痛不已。

    这时，同行的房客们围过来纷纷议论。

    一个人说：“你怎么傻到把马拴在马棚外呢？”

    第二个人说：“你连马腿也不曾捆扎一下，岂不更傻？”

    又有一个人说：“骑马去海边，这本身就够蠢的了。”

    还有人说：“只有懒人和行动不便的人才会有马！”

    行路者异常震惊，终于喊了起来：“朋友们，仅仅因为我的马被盗，你们就接二连三地数落我的过失。奇怪的是，对于盗贼你们却没有半句指责！”
